DOK partnership demonstrates institutional commitment to develop and maintain high-quality assessment content
Dover, N.H.—September 9, 2016—Measured Progress announces today that it has been named a WebbAlign Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Partner. Awarded by the Wisconsin Center for Education Products and Services (WCEPS), the partnership certification is granted to educational publishers that have committed to an ongoing relationship with Dr. Norman Webb and his team for implementing the DOK Framework. Through the partnership, Measured Progress furthers its commitment to produce high-quality assessment materials that represent a range of complexity and measure student learning effectively.
Dr. Webb, pioneer of the DOK method of classifying test item complexity, founded WebbAlign in 2013 under the auspices of the WCEPS. DOK has become the industry standard to indicate the level of cognitive demand or complexity of an individual assessment item. Since its inception, the application of DOK has expanded beyond assessment tasks to include the classification of curriculum-based activities and learning objectives.
“Our partnership with WebbAlign will bring benefits to Measured Progress staff, clients, and, most importantly, teachers and students, for years to come,” says Mark Johnson, Assistant Director of Enterprise and Product Development at Measured Progress. “More than 50 staff members participated in the training and we’re pleased to receive this designation as an industry recognition of our long-standing pledge to create high-quality assessment materials that have a positive impact on teaching and student learning.”
In addition to training with WebbAlign, Measured Progress also submitted a variety of types of items across content areas to WebbAlign for review and calibration, to assure that DOK levels are applied properly. As a certified DOK partner, Measured Progress will participate in ongoing annual calibration with WebbAlign to maintain the mutual high standards for rigor and consistency.
“Measured Progress has been using the Depth of Knowledge framework to develop assessment items targeted to the intended level of content complexity for many years,” says Dr. Webb. “We are pleased to welcome Measured Progress as a certified partner to develop rigorous assessments to meet the college and career readiness needs of K-12 educators across the country.”
“Developing a common understanding of cognitive demand using the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Framework strengthens the alignment between assessments and learning standards,” comments Martin Borg, Measured Progress President and CEO. “By joining WebbAlign as a DOK partner, we reinforce our commitment to improving instruction and learning through effective assessment programs and services. At Measured Progress, our focus has been consistent for more than three decades: ‘It’s all about student learning.’ ”
Measured Progress will continue to use the WebbAlign DOK framework to help create assessments that are meaningful, useful, and worth taking.
