Start with the Standards:
Planning, Assessing, and Instructing for Student Achievement
Why should you attend?
An effective, standards-based classroom starts with knowing the standards. Educators will gain a clear understanding of how standards are embedded in their math, language arts, social studies, or science curriculum. Integration within content areas and across curricular areas, meaningful assessments, and rich, engaging learning experiences become the norm. Well-designed, standards-based units of study are essential components of a standards-based classroom.
What will you do during this workshop?
In Start with the Standards, participants
- explore the positive impact of a standards-based classroom;
- learn how to improve student learning and active engagement in a standards-based classroom while maintaining developmentally responsible programs and curriculum based on content areas and grade levels;
- “unpack” standards to determine exactly what students are to know (knowledge) and be able to do (skill) and how well (performance level);
- engage in the process of effectively aligning content-specific standards with assessments and rich learning experiences to provide powerful units of study; and
- follow a three-step planning process to design a unit of study.
