Examining Student Work To Improve Achievement

Scheduled Workshops

April 11-12, 2007 Marlborough, MA

Why should you attend?

The largest body of evidence regarding student performance is often overlooked—the work that students produce every day in math, language arts, social studies, and science. With careful and deliberate examination of various sources of student work, teachers and administrators can gather a wealth of information related to instructional practices and curricular implications.

What will you do during this workshop?

Examining Student Work To Improve Achievement introduces participants to protocols for examining and evaluating student work. The close relationships among content standards, performance standards, assessment, and instruction are explored as a means to support the process of determining instructional and curricular implications. Discussions and collaborative work help participants translate techniques into practice, as they learn how

  • a learning community or teams work as a group to evaluate student work;
  • to establish protocols for effective communication;
  • collaborative evaluation leads to understanding instructional and curricular implications; and
  • to strengthen the relationship of content standards, performance standards, and assessment.
