Rick Stiggins founded the Assessment Training Institute (now a part of Educational Testing Service – ETS) to foster the use of balanced assessment systems that lead to improved student learning. Such systems include both assessment of learning (summative) and assessment for learning (formative). Measured Progress and the Assessment Training Institute (ATI) have worked together for a number of years providing student-involved classroom assessment training, a critical aspect of balanced assessment systems and improved student learning. Our joint efforts have reached educators from Michigan to Florida, Massachusetts to Louisiana and beyond. We have provided district training, regional workshops and institutes on classroom assessment and assessment literacy.

The techniques that ETS/ATI brings to the classroom are supported by international research that shows with high quality, student-involved assessments and descriptive feedback, student achievement improves. The collaboration between our two organizations can help local educators move dramatically closer to the balanced use of such quality assessments.

The following ETS/ATI resources are designed to assist teacher and administrator teams in gaining assessment expertise and implementing effective, student-involved, formative assessment programs as part of a balanced assessment system. The materials have been designed for use in learning teams, but are equally suited for use by individuals, in workshop sessions, and by professional development trainers at the school, district, region, and state level.

Packages

ETS’s Total Professional Development Package (special price for package with VHS: $275 –limited supply) provides to professional development specialists, school learning teams, and curriculum libraries everything they need to facilitate the learning of classroom teachers. The package includes several books on classroom assessment and a set of seven interactive training videos or DVDs.

ETS’s Classroom Assessment School Package has been designed specifically for schools implementing professional development that combines student-involved classroom assessment for learning with day-to-day instruction for their teaching staff. This package includes on book (can be ordered in quantities of 15 to 70 copies) and one set of seven interactive training DVDs.
