MontanaMontana Mountain Range

Working with Measured Progress, Montana educators and the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) developed criterion-referenced tests (CRT) in reading, mathematics, and science. This portion of the state’s assessment system is known as Montana Comprehensive Assessment System, Phase 2 (MontCAS, Phase 2). A reading and mathematics alternate assessment was developed and implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 in the spring of 2004.

Approximately 84,500 students in grades three through eight and ten are tested annually in reading and mathematics (CRT and CRT-Alt). Science tests will be added for grades four, eight, and ten in the spring of 2008.
